This axis aims to raise community awareness and ensure dialogue between the teaching, research and practice communities. The aim is to improve practices and support the resilience of children and adolescents.
This axis is deployed in four ways:
Outreach activities
Practical and research training of students
Teach and supervise graduate students who will contribute to the advancement of the scientific field. The Chair holder teaches a class on assessment and intervention with young people followed by the Youth Protection Directorate, a course intended for students in criminology.
Continuing education and practice support
The holder is actively involved in the continuing education of workers working with young people and families, in particular at the YPD. Summaries of scientific knowledge and practice support tools are developed around themes relevant to programming and practice settings.
Scientific influence
Diffuse research findings in academic circles, in Quebec and internationally.
Current projects
Practical training course on criminological assessment and intervention with young people
This undergraduate course in criminology (CRI-2121) introduces students to criminological intervention with young people taken into care by the youth protection or juvenile justice system. The objectives of the course are to:
- develop the ability to analyze situations of compromise and delinquency;
- know the main criminological intervention approaches with young people;
- understand the importance of adapting the intervention according to the legal framework;
- learn about explanatory theories of deviance among young people;
- integrate risk management principles with young people in difficulty.
